Tour description
Just about 30 minutes from Siem Reap’s urban area, the villages around Angkor still maintain a way of life that has remained almost unchanged for generations: wooden stilt houses, rice fields, lotus ponds, and rows of sugar palms—the symbol of the Cambodian countryside.
The tour begins with a leisurely ox-cart ride along village roads. You will meet a worker climbing a sugar palm tree with a bamboo ladder to collect the sap, then see how the palm sap is boiled into sugar in a large pan over a wood-fired stove—and taste the sugar while it is still warm. Next, try weaving baskets and thatched roofs, and visit the village school or pagoda, depending on the day.
At lunchtime, a local family will invite you to enjoy a home-cooked meal featuring rustic dishes such as sour soup, braised fish, fried eggs, and garden vegetables. This tour is especially suitable for families with children and anyone who wants to understand the everyday life of the Khmer people.
