Description du circuit
Ao Nang is where visitors sleep. Krabi Town, half an hour inland at the river mouth, is where southern Thailand actually eats - a small provincial capital with a Thai-Chinese-Muslim mix, mangrove on three sides and a night market that sets up on the pier every evening.
We start at the Chao Fah night market with khao gaeng, the southern curry-over-rice system where you point at a tray and get three scoops, and your guide translates the trays for you: yellow crab curry, sour fish curry, stir-fried stink beans with shrimp paste. Then hoi chak teen, the local wing shells you eat by sucking them straight from the shell, grilled squid with a fiery green sauce, and satay from the Muslim stalls.
Krabi is heavily Muslim, so the second half of the route takes in roti, Malay-style fried chicken and sweet tea with condensed milk. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings we also cover the Walking Street behind Maharaj Road, which is the busiest and best night of the week.
Small group, maximum 10 guests, entirely on foot within about 600 metres of the river.

Stop 3 - Grilled squid and skewers: Whole squid over charcoal with the sharp green seafood sauce, plus chicken and pork skewers from the grill row.
Stop 4 - Muslim satay and fried chicken: Chicken satay with a thick peanut sauce and Malay-style fried chicken from Krabi's Muslim stalls, with sweet tea.

Stop 6 - Roti and cha yen: Butter-fried roti with condensed milk and a Thai iced tea to finish, with your guide's notes on eating around Krabi and Ao Nang.

Politique d'annulation et de remboursement
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour start time for a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours are non-refundable. Tours run rain or shine, but during the September to October monsoon peak a heavy downpour can close the open-air stalls - in that case we move to covered shophouse restaurants or refund you in full.
Autres remarques
Runs daily at 17:00. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are the strongest evenings because the Walking Street operates then; midweek is quieter and better for conversation.
Getting here: Krabi Town is about 30 minutes from Ao Nang by songthaew or taxi. The last songthaew back to Ao Nang leaves around 22:00 - after that you will need a private taxi, which we can arrange.
Monsoon season runs May to October, peaking in September and October, with heavy afternoon rain.
Dietary needs: tell us at least 48 hours ahead. Krabi has a large Muslim population, so a fully halal route is easy here. Vegetarian is possible but southern Thai food leans heavily on shrimp paste and fish sauce, so tell us in advance.
Cash only at the markets. Entirely on foot, about 1 km.
