Description du circuit
Kuala Lumpur's night food splits along two lines that almost never meet. Jalan Alor is Chinese, pork- and beer-friendly, and blazes with neon from six in the evening. Kampung Baru is Malay, entirely halal, and sits on a few hundred acres of wooden village houses that the city grew around without ever demolishing. This tour does both, which is the honest way to eat this city.
We start on Jalan Alor with charcoal chicken wings from the stall the street is famous for, grilled stingray with sambal on a banana leaf, satay, and a plate of Chinese greens with garlic. Your guide will explain the Cantonese, Hokkien and Hakka strands that built this food and how the street's economics work.
Then a short ride to Kampung Baru, where the Petronas Towers loom over tin-roofed houses. Here we eat nasi lemak - coconut rice, sambal, anchovies, peanut and egg, with fried chicken marinated in spice paste - plus grilled fish with sambal, satay from the charcoal, and cendol or ABC shaved ice to finish.
Small group, maximum 10 guests, with a taxi transfer between the two neighbourhoods included.

Autres remarques

Halal note: the Jalan Alor half of this tour is not halal - it serves pork and alcohol. The Kampung Baru half is entirely halal. If your group needs a fully halal evening we will run the Kampung Baru section at greater length and substitute an Indian-Muslim stop for Jalan Alor. Tell us when you book.
During Ramadan the Kampung Baru bazaar transforms the neighbourhood in the late afternoon, and it is one of the best food experiences in Malaysia. We adjust the timing to catch it - ask us when booking if you are travelling then.
Dietary needs: tell us at least 48 hours ahead. Vegetarian is workable but changes several stops.
Minimum age 10. About 1.5 km of walking plus one taxi transfer.
